New Year’s Resolution 2013

As January is coming to a close, I reflect back to the first day of the New Year.  Like many people I like to make New Year’s resolutions and this year is no different.  Of course as always my top two resolutions are to get fit and lose weight – I’ll keep you posted on how well I stay on track.  If you are a betting person, I won’t last 4 months on my new routine!

User Conference 2012

Where did the year go?  Wasn’t it just yesterday that we were together for our Annual User Group conference?  Over those two days we investigated a crime on school activity funds with the help of Ray Haywood at PricewaterhouseCoopers. We welcomed Moneris as a preferred partner with KEV. We rolled up our sleeves and dove into tactical and practical topics that would assist us in our day-to-day duties/tasks of monitoring school activity funds.  This of course was with the help of many of our colleagues that  presented workshops such as coaching school bookkeepers on how to manage change, reducing the risk of theft, understanding the impact on new ministry reporting, and taking part in the debate on centralized vs. decentralized rollovers.  I wonder who won…  We heard about School Cash Online and imagined a cashless school society.  And who could forget the valuable networking that happens when a group like us gets together for 2 days, even in the snow!

IRS Hosting Free Webinars in July

On June 22nd, the IRS announced its plans to hold a webinar about 3% Withholding Tax required on
selected government entity payments that will take effect in 2013. The “New Contractor Withholding
Requirements: The Ins and Outs of IRC 3402(t)” webinar will be one hour long and will be provided at no
cost. It is scheduled to be held on July 14th at 2:00pm (Eastern Time) and will address who must withhold
under Section 3402(t), which payments are subject or exceptions to the withholding, and 3402(t) deposit
and reporting mechanics.
